AUDIO-VISUAL REPAIR ASSISTANT
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is technical work involving the responsibility for repairing and maintaining audio-visual and electronic equipment. This work differs from Audio-Visual Technician in that it involves training and/or experience in the repair and maintenance of such equipment, rather than its use. The work is performed under the general supervision of the Program Director or Coordinator of Audio-Visual Services. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)
Repairs inoperative audio-visual and electronic equipment on site or in shop;
Performs preventative. maintenance to keep audio-visual equipment in good working order;
Maintains inventories of parts, tools and testing equipment; Picks up and delivers equipment as required;
Maintains accurate records of equipment repaired, parts used and time involved;
Where necessary, does on-site repair and/or maintenance.
FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of the repair and maintenance of audio-visual equipment; good knowledge of parts used and tools required in such repair and maintenance; working knowledge of electronics; ability to repair transistorized equipment incorporating printed circuits; ability to read schematic drawings; ability to use appropriate testing equipment; manual dexterity; mechanical ability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of
the position.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: from high school and, in addition, either:
1. One year of specialized training in electronics, electronics repair, or a closely related field; or
2. One year of specialized experience in electronics, electronics repair or a closely related area; or
3. An equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated in (1) and (2).
Note: Documented part-time or volunteer experience will be accepted on a prorated basis.
