SUPERVISING CAMPUS SECURITY GUARD

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: This is supervisory security work involving responsibility for overseeing Campus Security Guards involved in protecting persons and property on campus. Employees in this class must work toward building and maintaining a positive relationship with students and other members of the campus community as part of an overall program of cooperation in preventing crime and destructive disorders. Work involves performance of duties in maintaining security at the Community College of the Finger Lakes. Work is performed under the general direction of the Director of Campus Safety and Land Management. Supervision is exercised over the work of Campus Security Guards and Switchboard Operators does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES: (Illustrative only)

Schedules hours of duty and patrol assignments for security personnel;

Does administrative work as required for position;

Issues summons for violations;

Requests police officer assistance when necessary;

Questions and, if necessary, detains suspicious persons pending arrival of an authorized police

officer;

Maintains surveillance over parking lots and roadways for proper parking procedures;

Assists in the inspection of campus facilities and property for safety, health or fire hazards and

brings details to attention of superior;

Assists in the development and presentation of security and safety training programs;

Assures coverage of special events for which security forces are needed;

Assists in providing liaison with outside law enforcement agencies;

Maintains a log book for all security shifts;

Sets up procedure for cleaners to pick up keys daily, nightly;

Reports any instances. of misconduct on the part of security employees;

Performs other duties related to security as assigned by the Director of Campus Safety and Land

Management.

hearing; integrity; reliability; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Gradation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and two years experience as a security guard or related work; or

2. Graduation from a New York State registered or regionally accredited two-year college with an Associate Degree in Police Science; or

3. An equivalent combination of training and experience.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS FOR APPOINTMENT:

1. United States Citizenship; and

2. Possession of a valid New York State Operator’s license at the time of appointment, and maintenance of such license throughout the tenure of employment in the position.
